President Trump declared an end to trade negotiations with Canada, citing a new Digital Services Tax that targets American tech firms. He criticized Canada's longstanding tariffs on U.S. agricultural goods, particularly dairy, claiming they could reach 400%. Trump's abrupt decision to halt discussions is presented as a response to what he sees as unfair trade practices, mirroring sentiments about the European Union. The announcement comes amidst ongoing fluctuations in stock markets linked to his trade policies. He also outlined intentions to impose tariffs on Canada within a week, focusing on energy imports and steel trade.
We have just been informed that Canada, a difficult Country to TRADE with, has put a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct attack on our Country.
Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately. We will let Canada know the Tariff that they will be paying to do business with the United States.
