Wealthy nations exceeded the $100 billion target in 2022, providing nearly $116 billion in climate aid to developing countries, partially compensating for the previous shortfalls, helping to bridge the gap from the missed targets in 2020 and 2021. "If you underachieved in the first two years, overachieving in the rest of the period is a good way to make up for that, to make amends," said Joe Thwaites, a climate finance expert at the Natural Resources Defense Council.
