The city’s Emergency Management Department officials have warned that a solar storm, which already began sending plasma ejections on Tuesday, could impact the communications, radio signals, satellites GPS and power grids on Thursday and Friday.
NOAA indicated a potential arrival time for the geomagnetic storm as early as the morning to midday on Thursday, with potential to reach G4 (Severe) upon arrival.
A geomagnetic storm happens when changes in solar wind currents create a major disturbance of Earth’s magnetosphere, ejecting millions of tons of plasma from the sun.
OEM spokesperson Aries Dela Cruz reassured the public that they need not be alarmed, urging caution so that people wouldn't be surprised if their technology stopped working.
