NYC Tourism Approaches Full Recovery From Pandemic, DiNapoli Says
Briefly

The number of tourists is nearly back to pre-pandemic numbers in New York City. Visitor spending and the tax revenue this industry generates already exceed pre-pandemic levels.
In 2023, 62.2 million people visited New York City, spending over $48 billion, up 1.3% over 2019. The uptick is projected to generate record tax revenue of $4.9 billion in FY 2024.
Domestic travelers, mainly leisure tourists, have led NYC's tourism recovery. 50.6 million U.S. visitors in 2023 were 7% more than 2022 and 95.3% of 2019 numbers.
International travelers, 20% of NYC visitors, have been slower to return. Their numbers grew but were still down 14.1% from 2019, impacting the overall tourism-related spending.
