The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation has opened an investigation into the death of Andre Joseph Mayfield, who died on May 26, 2024 following an encounter with members of the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn.
Family members of Mayfield told CBS 2 New York that Mayfield had suffered from depression and mental illness in the past and that there should have been a social worker there to help de-escalate the situation.
