Lefferts Historic House to Honor Shirley Chisholm With Art, Fashion Event on Sept. 29
Briefly

"Art is a powerful tool for social justice, and for a dialogue about legacy, agency and creativity," said Prospect Park Alliance President Morgan Monaco, emphasizing the event's mission to honor Black women. The event, inspired by Shirley Chisholm, aims to utilize art for healing and recognition of past injustices against Black women, showcasing their heroism and contributions. Participants will create superhero capes to symbolize their strength and legacy, reinforcing the message of empowerment through creativity.
Chisholm, recognized as the first Black woman elected to Congress, advocated for equality and justice for marginalized communities. Her life and achievements serve as an inspiration for contemporary movements seeking to uplift the voices of Black women and their ongoing struggles against inequity in society. Adama Delphine Fawundu’s performance piece, In the Face of History Freedom Cape, encapsulates this ongoing fight, expressing both a tribute and a call to action for future generations.
