Max Roach, the iconic jazz drummer and Civil Rights activist, was honored with a street naming ceremony at Greene and Marcy Avenues in Bedford Stuyvesant.
Roach, a Brooklyn-raised jazz musician, co-founded the first musician-owned record label, Debut Records, and was the first jazz musician to receive a MacArthur Fellowship.
Roach's music was seen as a healing force to reconnect people amidst hate, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who praised the musician's ability to bridge divides.
