Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of more than 250,000 slaves at the end of the Civil War. It was first established as a state holiday in 2020 and later as a national holiday in 2021.
Various celebrations and events in Brooklyn include Black Western culture at the Brooklyn Museum, dance and fitness classes, live performances, and musical shows at different locations.
