Controversial Crown Heights development faces shadow impact concerns: City Planning report * Brooklyn Paper
Briefly

A planned 14-story building on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights would have 'significant adverse effects' on the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Jackie Robinson Playground by creating shadows, blocking sunlight to sensitive plants, and denying park goers natural light, according to the Department of City Planning.
In a previous rejected rezoning attempt by the same landowner for the same location, the City Planning Commission had criticized the 'grossly out of scale' and 'inappropriate' plans for 34-story towers.
Local city council representative is opposing the new rezoning plan for 962-972 Franklin Avenue, stating that the project fails to address concerns of local institutions like the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Jackie Robinson Playground, along with lacking sufficient community input support.
Continuum Company, the owner of the site, has faced setbacks with a previous rezoning attempt and is now proceeding with a smaller rezoning effort, indicated by the release of a draft environmental impact statement for the 14-story building project.
