At the end of the day, two-way singletrack trails on hills can be very dangerous. It is advisable to have directional trails on hills whenever possible to avoid such interactions.
These riders were certainly not helped by the fact that they were blinded by the sun. Riding in the evening can be dangerous for that reason.
