Juxtapoz Magazine - The Intimate and Paradoxical Way to Paint "Cloud Cover" by Aubrey Levinthal
Briefly

What I have always loved about Aubrey Levinthal's work, the Philadelphia based painter having a solo show currently at Haverkampf Leistenschneider in Berlin, is that she paints memory the way it actually situatues in our lives. Some moments are clear, with a sheen of haze, something a tad foggy but the characters and the moment just clear enough. And some are so distant or unresolved that they appear blurred, almost too difficult to bring to the mind but still in some form of dreamlike understanding.
If you see Aubrey's shows, they sort of give this experience of clarity and something just outside the realm of understanding, these wonderful snippets of life lived but life not always fully remembered as such. Cloud Cover, both in name and the aesthetic of the works as these beautifully muted works, is both how the mind works and how we see some of the moments of our mind. - Evan Pricco
