Bike Advisory Council urges city to protect ghost bikes - Austin Monitor
Briefly

"We are constantly looking for ways to remind people of the toll of traffic violence and I don't think there is a more poignant reminder that we have than ghost bikes," said Spencer Schumacher, chair of the council.
"The fact that people are volunteering their time, money and effort to put these out is something we should really respect and protect as much as we can," Schumacher added.
The council's recommendation includes having contact information on ghost bikes for notifications if temporarily removed, using the ghost bike map to inform construction crews, and increasing awareness of ghost bikes through city departments.
Schumacher noted that the removal of ghost bikes was likely due to maintenance or construction, and the council's recommendation stresses a good faith effort to reach out before any temporary removal.
