Proposals to overhaul Austin's drought response rules and update long-term conservation goals face criticism from the Integrated Water Resource Planning Community Task Force for being insufficiently ambitious.
Members of the task force expressed dissatisfaction with the utility's goals, citing lack of challenge and inadequate time for review before being asked to support them.
Despite efforts by Austin Water to explain the rationale behind the new conservation goals, the task force remained unconvinced and did not offer support.
The proposed drought response and water conservation plans aim to manage water supply from Highland Lakes reservoirs, with updated rules required every five years under state law.
