This Day in Braves History: Atlanta inks Dan Uggla to a 5-year extension

The Braves and Dan Uggla agree on a five-year contract extension worth $62 million. Uggla hit 36 home runs and put up a 111 wRC+ in 2011. He produced a 104 wRC+ in 2012 and a 91 wRC+ in 2013. The Braves will release him in July of 2014.
1977 - Mary Shane is hired by the Chicago White Sox as the first female TV play-by-play announcer. 2002 - The Twins hire Ron Gardenhire as their new manager replacing Tom Kelly. 2005 - Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg are elected to the Hall of Fame.
