The Braves added Matt Carpenter and Ray Kerr in a trade from the Padres on Friday, once again taking on an unwanted contract in Carpenter (who will likely be traded) to acquire the upside and control of Kerr.
Furthermore, the Braves continue to add high velocity options to their present and future bullpen, a trait that could add value in future postseasons. Plus, the addition of Kerr allows the Braves to have a much deeper depth chart of left handed relievers. After all the injuries Atlanta experienced last year, it seems quality depth is a priority.
