The magic of Troy Hill-a series of unique whole house art installations in Pittsburgh
Briefly

In Pittsburgh, the Troy Hill Art Houses contain unique art installations within ordinary homes. Each house offers an immersive experience, such as a 1960s living room for Christmas and an attic with natural history specimens, a Cold War communication hub alongside a seismic lab, a functioning lighthouse in a previously burned structure, and a psychedelic living space with hidden tunnels. The project was inspired by Japanese site-specific art installations on Naoshima, emphasizing the need for permanent yet evolving creative expressions by the artists.
In one art installation, visitors find a perfectly preserved 1960s living room ready for Christmas, alongside an attic filled with extensive natural history specimens.
Another house features a Cold War radio communication hub combined with a seismic laboratory, integrating both historical and scientific themes into the art.
The house, once burned, hides a fully functioning lighthouse accessible for visitors to experience the ambiance of a caretaker watching the waves across seasons.
One psychedelic living room is adorned entirely in album covers and vinyl records, offering visitors hidden tunnels and secret passageways that can be explored.
