With AI Tools, Scientists Can Crack the Code of Life
Briefly

We're just floating bags of water moving around, pushmeet Kohli says, what makes us special are proteins, the building blocks of life. How they interact with each other is what makes the magic of life happen.
AlphaFold was considered by the journal Science as the breakthrough of the year in 2021. In 2022, it was the most cited research paper in AI. People have been on protein structures for many decades and were not able to make that much progress, then came AI.
DeepMind released the AlphaFold Protein Structure Database, making it freely available to scientists worldwide. More than 1.7 million researchers in 190 countries have utilized it for various research purposes.
AlphaFold has been instrumental in understanding cancer, Covid-19, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and other diseases. DeepMind's latest AlphaFold version extends the structure prediction algorithm to nucleic acids and ligands.
It has democratized scientific research. Scientists in developing countries can access protein structure predictions via the AlphaFold database for free, aiding research on neglected diseases and more.
