Watch out ChatGPT! Google's Gemini is catching up
"Alphabet just reported its Q3 earnings, and announced that its Gemini App now has 650 million monthly active users. That's a jump up from the 450 million monthly users Google reported in July, and boosted in part by the rollout of its viral image tool, Nano Banana. OpenAI recently said ChatGPT has 800 million weekly users, so it's still ahead of Google, but the latest update shows the Alphabet company is blazing ahead."
"a healthy beat in its Cloud business, which is a spot that investors are especially focused on amid heavy AI spending. The Search business, meanwhile, raked in $56.56 billion in revenue - a 15% year-on-year jump. Google also said it expects to spend more on capex than previously projected. "With the growth across our business and demand from Cloud customers, we now expect 2025 capital expenditures to be in a range of $91 billion to $93 billion," the company said."
Gemini reached 650 million monthly active users, up from 450 million in July, partly driven by the viral Nano Banana image tool. OpenAI's ChatGPT maintains about 800 million weekly users, leaving ChatGPT ahead in total usage. Alphabet posted record third-quarter revenue of $102.35 billion, marking its first-ever $100 billion quarter. Cloud revenue beat expectations and Search generated $56.56 billion, a 15% year‑on‑year increase. Strong Cloud demand led Google to raise its 2025 capital expenditure forecast to $91–$93 billion, up from a prior projection of $85 billion. Investors remain focused on Cloud amid heavy AI spending.
