Microsoft has signed a 20-year power-purchase agreement with Constellation to operate the undamaged reactor at Three Mile Island, aiming to power AI data centers.
Joe Dominguez, CEO of Constellation, emphasized that before its closure, their plant was among the safest and most reliable, and they aim to restart it with renewed economic purpose.
Constellation's Unit 1 reactor, which has the potential to power 800,000 homes, will address growing demand for clean energy, particularly in light of AI and data centers.
With one-third of nuclear plants engaging with companies for power, there's concern regarding the impact of AI-driven data centers on the already strained U.S. power grid.
