"As an example, Legg gave an illustration of a scenario in which a company ahs a team of 100 software engineers. In the new world of work, however, that team would be significantly cut by about 80 layoffs and reduced to 20 engineers. And then, the remaining 20 would be using advanced AI tools to aid in their work too."
"Back in 2020, the World Economic Forum projected that the "robot revolution" will create 97 million jobs and displace 85 million existing roles. The latest Future of Jobs report 2025 by the WEF, however, almost doubles that figure to 170 million new roles being created, largely due to AI, but also because of macrotrends like "green transition, and economic and demographic shifts," the report notes."
AI systems are expected to evolve from useful tools into systems performing economically valuable work, replacing many existing roles. Some remote positions could be almost entirely eliminated as automation handles core tasks. A hypothetical example shows a 100-person software engineering team being reduced by about 80 people to 20, with the remaining engineers using advanced AI tools. Job creation and displacement projections shift rapidly: earlier estimates forecast millions created and displaced, and newer projections increase expected new roles to roughly 170 million. Approximately four in ten currently recognized skills may become displaced and no longer viewed as relevant.
