The Department of Energy has announced four federal locations for new AI-specific data centers, including two national labs: Idaho National Laboratory and Oak Ridge Reservation. The other sites are Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant and Savannah River Site. These selections aim to develop AI data center and energy generation infrastructure through private sector partnerships. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that utilizing these sites will promote U.S. advancements in AI and energy, ensuring national security and reducing energy costs. This initiative follows President Trump’s recent executive order on AI.
By leveraging DOE land assets for the deployment of AI and energy infrastructure, we are taking a bold step to accelerate the next Manhattan Project - ensuring U.S. AI and energy leadership.
These sites are uniquely positioned to host data centers as well as power generation to bolster grid reliability, strengthen our national security, and reduce energy costs.
