An Alternative to Conventional Neural Networks Could Help Reveal What AI Is Doing behind the Scenes

The race is on to create powerful AI models, with companies like Meta (Llama), Google (Bard/Gemini), and Anthropic joining in. However, the existing AI models operate like black boxes, lacking transparency in their decision-making processes.

A team led by Ziming Liu of MIT has developed Kolmogorov-Arnold networks (KANs) that outperform conventional neural networks in efficiency and problem-solving abilities, offering reproducible results. There's hope to integrate KANs into LLMs for enhanced performance.
