Low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) in London have resulted in a 35% reduction in all road injuries and a 37% reduction in fatalities and serious injuries. The study found no significant adverse effects on safety in nearby roads. In areas where LTNs were removed, road injuries returned to pre-intervention levels, while boundary roads showed no overall change in injuries. LTNs aim to lower traffic volume and speed in residential zones, fostering a safer environment for all road users. Implementing LTNs has prevented an estimated 613 road injuries, including 100 severe cases or fatalities.
Low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) have led to a 35% reduction in road injuries and a 37% decline in deaths and serious injuries in urban areas.
The research indicates that when LTNs are removed, injury numbers rebound to pre-intervention levels, but boundary roads exhibit no significant changes in injury statistics.
