""We want to trust what we've heard," Todd Main, the director of market development at the Illinois Soybean Association, told Fortune."
""We are concerned about the volatility in the trade relationships," Main continued."
""It's hard for people to make plans-whether that's farmers planning for next year's crop, or buyers that are planning to make big investments in equipment or facilities or what have you-where there's lots of instability.""
China purchased 792,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans, the largest single order in two years. The sale followed a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in which China committed to resume U.S. soybean purchases, buying 12 million tons by year-end and at least 25 million tons annually for the next three years. Earlier November purchases included 332,000 tons, bringing the month's total above one million tons. COFCO had not ordered U.S. soybeans since May and had not bought since the 2025 U.S. harvest began. U.S. farmers seek assurance of steady demand amid tariff-driven market volatility.
