In 2013, a couple purchased a plot on Sauvie Island that had been a sheep pasture and developed it into Croft Farm. The property now spans seven acres and includes four buildings. The main house was built in 2013 with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a detached studio connected by a deck. The design uses passive house construction and is certified platinum by Earth Advantage. All buildings are wrapped in rust-colored steel and feature large windows for wide views. A barn added in 2017 provides space for honey production, cider pressing, storage, and a farm stand, along with beehives, greenhouses, and on-site U-pick and CSA programs.
"Sure, there is plenty of room for agrarian activities in here: harvesting honey from the dozen beehives (the Croft has a collaboration with Jacobsen Salt Co.), storing the harvest, pressing cider, and running a farm stand. The couple run a blueberry U-pick on-site, as well as an heirloom tomato CSA that makes use of the property's two greenhouses."
