Rangers suffered a fourth straight defeat to open their Europa League campaign after being swept aside 2-0 by Roma at Ibrox. The Scottish giants' dour run in Europe continued as Danny Rohl followed up a 3-0 defeat to Brann in his first game in charge with another disappointing result on Thursday. Rohl had built some optimism with back-to-back domestic wins over Kilmarnock and Hibernian, but he clearly has more work to do after this defeat and losing to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.
But Midtjylland got the breakthrough after recycling a corner in the 33rd minute, with Erlic rising highest to thump his header past Schmeichel. Just 98 seconds later, Gogorza, who assisted the first goal, got the hosts' second. He danced between two Celtic defenders as he cut inside from the left before bending a brilliant shot around Schmeichel into the far side of the net.
After failing to qualify for the Champions League, Rangers have lost all three games in the Europa League so far in what has been a disastrous start to the season. Russell Martin lasted just 17 games in charge, and there was no immediate new manager bounce as his replacement Danny Rohl took charge for the first time in the last round of Europa League fixtures, losing 3-0 to Brann.
Tottenham Hotspur bid farewell to Son Heung-min earlier this year, ending a 10-year association with the North London club, as the Korean international went Stateside. For the first time in his Spurs career, Son found himself mired in the bottom half of the Premier League, helping the club avoid relegation after finishing 17th in the table, having begun games on the bench with increasing regularity.
SK Brann will head into the Scottish Premiership game against Rangers on the back of a 4-1 hammering of Haugesund at home in the Norwegian Eliteserien. It came after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Viking FK in the Norwegian Eliteserien, which followed a 1-0 victory over FC Utrecht in front of their fans in the UEFA Europa League.
SK Sturm Graz are one of the most well-known clubs from Austria. They have regularly played in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League over the years. Sturm Graz have won the ÖFB-Cup seven times and the Austrian Supercup on three occasions.
Nice are a modest club in Italy that have been doing well in recent times. They finished fourth in the Ligue 1 table last season and will now be playing in the UEFA Europa League this campaign. Franck Haise's side, though, have made a disappointing start to the new season. Nice are as low as 12th in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with just six points from five matches, only two points above the relegation zone. Nice will head into the UEFA Europa League match against AS Roma at the Allianz Riviera on the back of a 4-1 defeat to Brest away from home in Ligue 1.
Legia Warsaw are arguably the biggest club in Poland and are also the most successful team from the European country. They have won the Polish league title a record 15 times and have also clinched the Polish Cup on 21 occasions.
