Tackling climate change and alleviating hunger: States recycle and donate food headed to landfills
New York is among the states targeting food waste by implementing programs to donate edible food and recycle food scraps.
Globally, about a third of food is wasted, with the United States having a higher percentage at 40%.
Food waste causes about 8% to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. [ more ]
