Darren Boamah died in his cell in HMP Wormwood Scrubs last January with wing staff not knowing he was epileptic. An investigation found more should be done to inform staff of prisoners' serious medical conditions.

Considering their reputation for violence and drugs, it's alarming to learn that until fairly recently, if someone fell ill in a prison, the best they might get is someone with a few months of medical training.

When the medical staff chooses to ignore or cover up assaults in prison infirmaries, they violate their professional ethics, prison policies, and ultimately the law.
