Amazon Ring stops letting police request footage in Neighbors app after outcry
Amazon Ring has disabled a feature in its Neighbors app that allowed police to request doorbell and surveillance camera footage without a warrant.
Privacy advocates and lawmakers have long criticized Ring for expanding police surveillance and enabling racial profiling.
Moving forward, police and public safety agencies with warrants will still be able to request footage through Amazon's transparency reports. [ more ]
