Max Domi: Domi's defensive woes will always be a glaring issue, but the Leafs have figured out how to optimize the veteran forward: he simply cannot play centre any longer! In the interim, Domi has been played some of his best hockey of the year when paired with Auston Matthews, given a larger avenue for his playmaking to shine. B-
Very quiet first half after scoring relatively early in the first quarter, but he managed to knock down a deep three from Curry range before the break and then got to the free-throw line on the ensuing possession. He hit another long three late in the third quarter and had a solid night of playmaking for others as well.
Fortunately, they had some competition in the joint practices with the Commanders and the Vikings before their exhibition games. First-round pick Will Campbell has started at left tackle from the beginning. His pass-blocking, the subject of all kinds of questions, was decent, but he allowed a fourth-quarter strip-sack. His run blocking, predicted to be terrific, wasn't. He also had two procedure penalties.
