Peoples Gas pipeline pause results in hundreds of layoffs, but an upcoming rate rehearing could restart the work - and increase bills
The Illinois Commerce Commission rejected Peoples Gas' emergency motion to restore funding for pipeline replacement, causing dozens of projects to be put on hold and resulting in layoffs.
Peoples Gas has been granted a rehearing by the ICC to request a limited scope rate increase to fund the completion of unfinished work.
A new investigation into the pipeline replacement program is expected to be conducted by the state, and the ICC is anticipated to rule on whether Peoples Gas can pass the additional costs along to customers. [ more ]
