Scientists Just Made a 1.75 Billion-Year-Old Discovery About the Origin of Life
Scientists have found the oldest direct evidence of oxygenic photosynthetic structures in fossilized bacteria that are 1.75 billion years old.
The discovery pushes back the origin of photosynthesis as we know it by at least 1.2 billion years.
The evolution of photosynthesis and the production of oxygen had a profound impact on the Earth's atmosphere and the evolution of complex life. [ more ]
