Letters: Lifesaving mission during World War II stopped a famine

Recently I wrote about one of the great missions of the U.S. Air Force called Operation Chowhound.This lifesaving mission during World War II dropped food into the Netherlands to stop a famine.Sixty years later there was a chance meeting between a U.S. Air Force pilot of Operation Chowhound, Robert Smith, and a man from the Netherlands who received this precious food.

This summer tens of thousands of wheelie bins will be rolled out across Milton Keynes.The city's rubbish and recycling is currently collected in plastic sacks but a new waste contract will see most homes using four bins.Non-recyclable rubbish will continue to be taken away weekly and it is hoped the area's recycling rate will increase.

Ohio man who falsely claimed to be Ghanaian prince sentenced to 20 years in prison

An Ohio man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday for pretending to be a Ghanaian prince and swindling more than a dozen victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.Daryl Robert Harrison, who went by Prince Daryl R. Attipoe and Prophet Daryl R. Attipoe, conned at least 14 people out of more than $800,000 according to evidence shown at his trial.

Evergreen Park priest steps aside as archdiocese investigates decades-old allegation of sexual abuse

An associate pastor at an Evergreen Park church has stepped aside after the Chicago Archdiocese said it was informed of an allegation that he sexually abused a minor some 40 years ago, before he entered the priesthood.In a letter to parishioners of Most Holy Redeemer, Cardinal Blase Cupich said the archdiocese received the allegation while the Rev. Paul Guzman was serving overseas on military duty.

The Queen Consort was greeted by her beloved rescue dogs as she visited the picturesque Wiltshire village of Lacock.Camilla arrived at St Cyriac's Church to see Beth and Bluebell, her Jack Russell terriers, waiting outside along with well-wishers and local residents on Wednesday.She first visited the church, which has been a centre of Christian worship since at least the late 12th century and has 900 parishioners.
