Anthony J. Alvarado, Former New York City Schools Chancellor, Dies at 81
Anthony J. Alvarado, the first Hispanic schools chancellor of New York City, has died at the age of 81.
Alvarado was known for his innovative approach to education, including rigorous teacher training and high expectations for students.
He believed that adults were responsible for the failure of children in the education system, and that poverty and other factors should not be used as excuses for poor outcomes. [ more ]
