A machine learning tool developed by researchers at the University of Oxford and Trillium Technologies can detect methane plumes from space using data from hyperspectral satellites.
The tool could help identify "super emitters" of methane and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The model was trained with data from NASA's AVIRIS aerial sensor and achieved 81% accuracy in detecting large methane plumes. [ more ]
