Nintendo has rolled out another new update for Mario Kart World. This patch brings the Switch 2 racing game up to version 1.4.0 and includes a swath of quality-of-life improvements and other adjustments. Among the numerous tweaks, Nintendo has added a "Custom Items" rule to the game, allowing you to adjust which items appear during a round. The Custom Items rule can be applied to VS Race, Balloon Battle, and Coin Runners modes. In addition, Nintendo has tweaked some of the course layouts leading to and from Koopa Troopa Beach. The company has also changed it so that every race heading toward Koopa Troopa Beach will now require you to complete two laps after reaching the course.

So the headline here is you can now join your friends online when playing Knockout Tour, alongside regular Race and Battle modes. There's another nice touch that if when trying to join friends for Knockout Tour, Race or Battle online and the game is full, you and one other person can play Free Roam together while you wait. That's a lot better than staring at a queue.

Birdo is one of the primary unlockable characters in Mario Kart World, with only four short races needed to unlock her after completing the Banana Cup.

With a clever use of the new Rewind feature, players now have a way to evade the infamous Blue Shell, which has historically been a frustrating challenge.

To unlock outfits in Mario Kart World, you'll need to locate the various Yoshi restaurants while playing as the character you want to unlock costumes for.

The decision to include Cow was something that we considered in terms of if we added that, I think people would be really happy about it. And so we did.
