When Guy Fawkes was preparing to blow up the Houses of Parliament all those centuries ago, he probably didn't foresee that 420 years later, thousands of Londoners would gather on a hill, serenaded by a Dolly Parton tribute act, watching hundreds of drones make cool neon shapes in the air to celebrate the failure of his plot. That's exactly what'll be happening in a few months time, though.

While this year's Taste of Los Gatos will feature Rush cover band R50 and Livewire headlining the main stage, with Chain of Fools, Identity Problem, Phill & Rob and Sam Marshall scattered throughout the one-day street party, make no mistake, the essence of the fest will be the nibbles and libations. "It's really telling the story of Los Gatos as a culinary destination," Chamber Executive Director Jennifer Lin said about the event, taking place on Sept. 6. "I really do feel like we're experiencing a culinary renaissance here."
Let's be honest, the live music scene is at something of a crossroads, with outrageous ticket pricing structures, canceled tours, and artist burnout making constant headlines. But we all know that feeling when the bass blasts from the amps and enters our veins, turning the crowd into a single organism as it pulses to the beat. Live music is the lifeblood of musicians and fans alike, and Consequence wants to celebrate that irreplaceable magic. And we need your help!
Did San Francisco seem a little bit empty last week? That's because a large chunk of the city's population made the trek to Burning Man, where our intrepid reporter Timothy Karoff braved the mud and a wet sleeping bag to send in daily dispatches via solar-powered Starlink. But here in the city, life goes on, with the normal packed social schedule of concerts, dance competitions and film screenings.
Punk rock is a fresh cup of coffee. I started the day with back-to-back female rage at Lands End: Destroy Boys, then Mannequin Pussy. Girl moshing, primal screams, and calls against oppression were everywhere this weekend, but nowhere did it hit harder than in that pit. With a stiff neck and smudged makeup, I headed to Twin Peaks for Marina.
You may have seen these viral stories on your social media feeds: a frightened shelter dog bonding with their foster; a passerby helping a street vendor by buying all their merchandise; an artist drawing a portrait of a stranger and listening to their life story. These acts strike a nerve, and it turns out we humans are actually wired for this kind of kindness, connection and empathy.
The chase for the NL West crown is heating up. The Los Angeles Dodgers are back at Dodger Stadium this weekend, so grab your Dodgers gear, cheer loud and support the Boys in Blue. And when you're not at the ballpark or watching them on TV, LA's got a full lineup of fun events waiting for you all weekend long!

The Dickies were pop punk before pop punk was a thing, starting way back in '77 with catchy melodies, a nerdy sense of humor, and even some harmonizing. While other bands (who were sticking tighter to the punk orthodoxy) accused them of just being in it for a quick buck, the Dickies were winning over audiences with their musical chops, their quirky, playful lyrics, and wild stage presence (including a WHO-loving puppet penis named Stewart).
Seeing the creative names of indie bands showing off their stuff can be an unexpected delight, and the upcoming show presented by Heavy Lemon at the Jade Cathay restaurant is no exception. Be it alternative rockers Later Alligator, Tacoma-based indie kids Hidden Driver, Tucson-born Yipee! or the other Tacoma-based band, Mini Golf Water Feature, there's a veritable slush-pile of interesting bands with compelling sounds and equally enticing names coming to the South Bay for a night of friendship, rock and dim sum.

The south London five-piece reformed after eight years to play in Victoria Park, with a rapturously received career-spanning set. From opener Latchmere, about a Battersea leisure centre with the crowd chanting that it's got a wave machine, they were clearly enjoying themselves. They overcame sound problems during First Love and again in Can You Give It, with their fans singing until it was fixed. Old friend Jamie T joined them for Marks To Prove It and his own Sticks N Stones.

Big news of the week: We're incredibly sad to hear that one of our old hangs, Edinburgh Castle, has closed. As bard Broke-Ass Stuart puts it, "If you were in your 20s or 30s in San Francisco at any point from the late 90s to the early 2010s, and somebody could've called you a "hipster," then you most likely spent some wonderful nights at Edinburgh Castle." Pour one out for the Castle, as the saying goes.
