Curt Bloch, a German Jew hiding in the Netherlands during Nazi occupation, created a satirical poetry magazine called Het Onderwater Cabaret (The Underwater Cabaret).

Bloch used pens, glue, newspapers, and other materials provided by his helpers to produce 95 issues of the magazine from 1943 to 1945. [ more ]

Historian Halik Kochanski has won the Wolfson History Prize for her book 'Resistance', which covers Jewish and other resistance movements against the Nazis in Europe.

Kochanski's book is the first English-language history of pan-European resistance to the Nazis, delving into lesser-known acts of defiance.

The author hopes her win will encourage more people to learn about resistance movements, and credits the London Library as her most inspiring place for research. [ more ]
