When Gianluigi Donnarumma and the American turf bent Jamal Musiala's ankle completely out of shape in Bayern Munich's clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, it was July 5th, 2025. Almost precisely 6 months later, Jamal Musiala has recovered from the injury enough to train individually for over a month. But he remains unable to play football yet, as the former Chelsea FC youngster revealed in a trip to the Bayern fan club.
164 days after his serious injury in the Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain, the 22-year-old returned to the pitch on Tuesday morning and was able to participate in parts of FC Bayern's team training.
Current Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller - who worked under Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern - spoke this week about Jamal Musiala's goal on the last matchday of the 2022/23 season that clinched the 11th Meisterschale in a row. Toppmöller, like the rest of Nagelsmann's crew, was let go in March when Thomas Tuchel was put into power, but he felt involved in that final goal and the celebrations.
"That's normal after such a big move abroad. But he's a superb player, he will get used to the Premier League over time and be able to handle the even bigger pressure. I felt the same way at Inter at the beginning. Andi Brehme, whose transfer was rather quiet, performed immediately at Inter. I had to get used to everything, partly due to the media hype and the higher transfer fee," said Matthäus told Sky Germany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Jamal Musiala is targeting a return to action for Bayern Munich before the end of 2025. Musiala suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle in a challenge with Gianluigi Donnarumma during Bayern's defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup in July. Bayern confirmed he would be absent for a minimum of four months and would require surgery immediately. The Germany playmaker recorded 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions for Bayern last season.
The surgery went really well, I'm in good care and I wanted to say there's no one to blame for this. I think situations like this happen and now I'm just going to use the next period of time to build up my strength and positivity again.
Luis Diaz is reportedly set to leave Anfield for Bayern Munich, with a deal now agreed as the German club accelerates its pursuit for attacking reinforcements after Jamal Musiala's injury.
