The United States launched airstrikes on Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria in response to a drone attack on a US base in Jordan.

Both Washington and Tehran seemed to want to avoid all-out war and tensions in the region are already high due to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The US claimed that the airstrikes were carefully targeted to avoid civilian casualties, but both the Iraqi and Syrian governments reported civilian deaths. [ more ]

Three US service members were killed and many wounded in a drone attack blamed on Iran-backed groups near the Syrian border.

This attack marks the first targeting of US troops in Jordan during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. [ more ]

Iran-backed groups have attacked US forces in Syria and Iraq more than 50 times since the start of the Gaza war.

The attacks have caused minor damage and no US soldiers have been killed.

The US has warned that the attacks must stop and has launched retaliatory strikes against purportedly Iran-linked sites in Syria. [ more ]
