A Pennsylvania man has been accused of selling a stolen pickup truck to a North Lindenhurst resident after advertising the vehicle on social media, Suffolk County police said.
Brutus, N.Y. - State Police last week set up a sting after a Central NY resident reported being scammed out of $18,500 and the scammer was coming back for more. Troopers were waiting, and when the New York City man arrived to collect $22,400, he was arrested, the State Police announced in a news release Wednesday. Xueye Luo, 43, was charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny, according to Trooper Lynnea Crane, a spokesperson for State Police.
Freddy Arias Zapata, 31, of Daniels Street, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Queens Supreme Court on Wednesday, Nov. 19, on a grand jury indictment charging him with four counts of bail jumping in the fourth degree. Zapata is accused of stealing luxury items, cash and other valuables from victims' vehicles in Ridgewood, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst and Kew Gardens.
Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect who allegedly stole a wallet from an R train rider in Woodside late last month. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 30, inside the Broadway/Northern Boulevard subway station just before 3 p.m., when the 22-year-old victim dropped his wallet while passing through the turnstiles. A much older stranger stooped down, grabbed the wallet and fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.
