Psychedelic Mushrooms Existed Millions of Years Before Humans, Largest-Ever Study Reveals
Scientists have completed the largest genomic study of magic mushrooms, analyzing the genomes of over 50 mushrooms from the Psilocybe genus.
The study found that psilocybin-making in Psilocybe evolved around 65 million years ago, and that the mushrooms evolved two independent ways of making psilocybin, one of which was previously undiscovered. [ more ]
