Owing to the fevered narratives proliferating across right-wing media, many have come to believe that the nation faces a scourge of "illegal" voting and wide-scale fraud. But this misdirection, shrill as it is with racist dog-whistles, is itself a fraud perpetrated against democratic rights. The right-wing battle for voter suppression, long waged primarily at the state level, is now being perpetrated by the federal government and the Department of Justice (DOJ) itself.
A D.C. jury acquitted Sean Dunn of assaulting an officer on Thursday, delivering another embarrassing setback to the Trump administration's effort to punish Washingtonians who oppose its crackdown on the city. Dunn-aka Sandwich Guy-became a folk hero in August after hurling a sub at an officer to protest President Donald Trump's deployment of federal forces in the District's streets. His acquittal comes on the heels of many similar humiliations for the administration:
Some 100,000 people took to the streets of New York City for Saturday's "No Kings" protest of President Trump repeatedly flaunting the Constitution to enact his agenda. Demonstrators included our very own Editor-in-Chief Gersh Kuntzman, who brought along a homemade sign defending the president's latest target, the 34th Street busway. Kuntzman didn't get many comments on his janky sign, but Streetfilms' Clarence Eckerson (photo above) got plenty of kudos for his.
