Germany's CO2 emissions are at their lowest in 7 decades, study shows
Germany's carbon dioxide emissions dropped to their lowest level in seven decades as coal use declined and economic pressures weighed down energy-intensive industries.
Renewable energy sources accounted for more than half of Germany's energy production in 2023, while coal-fired electricity production dropped to its lowest level since the 1960s.
The reduction in emissions was also attributed to a drop in electricity demand, increased imports from neighboring countries, and decreased production by energy-intensive companies due to economic weakness. [ more ]
