The magic room was a community effort, maintained by many residents volunteering their time to keep it well organised and running smoothly. I often saw my neighbour, Wendy Showyin, when I stopped by.

"Over the last year, our committee set out to learn about asset management and the state of one of our most important assets, which is our streets and our roads. We learned that our streets are riddled with potholes, and many of the streets are failing. The condition has worsened over the last five years. We learned that if we do not act now to address the degradation of our streets, it will continue to worsen."

He noted that the developers had fully negotiated a lease and were ready to proceed with construction plans.

"The responders weren't just FEMA, it was people taking up direct collections for food, for clothing; it was a community response."

Alejandra Ferrera emphasizes that the security-driven design, while functional at the time, has led to a fragmented urban experience where streets serve only as transit voids, lacking social engagement.

H-E-B is America's best grocery chain, with a loyal following and a super-long list of must-buy products, including freshly baked tortillas and store-brand ice cream.

"We're talking about revitalizing our neighborhoods and rebuilding our communities that are facing blight and abandonment. We're also talking about adding tax dollars to our revenue stream and creating new economic opportunities."

Councilmember Lucas Ramirez raised concerns that the bike lanes were being used as a pretext for getting rid of the RVs, leading to the decision to shelve the project.

"I love the way that it allows me to connect as a gallerist with collectors and other artists," Galardi said of Future Fair over a video call.
