Scientists Find Organic Matter in Sample From Distant Asteroid
Researchers studying samples from the asteroid Ryugu have found cometary organic matter, supporting the theory that life on Earth may have been seeded by ancient asteroid impacts.
The samples contained 'melt splashes' with carbonaceous materials that resemble primitive organic matter, suggesting that cometary dust mixed with Ryugu's hydrous silicates. [ more ]
