Ronald Poppo made it to 65 despite living on the streets of Miami for more than half of his life. On Memorial Day weekend 2012, Rudy Eugene attacked Poppo on the MacArthur Causeway, causing severe injuries. Eugene refused to stop his assault when confronted by police, leading to his death. Blood tests revealed marijuana but no explanation for his actions.

The most improbable occurrence came during a Women's College World Series game when Oregon's pitcher inadvertently hit a clump of dirt into her catcher's eye mid-pitch.
