Calif. researchers think they know why red wine causes headaches
Red wine headaches may be caused by the buildup of a toxin called acetaldehyde, triggered by the presence of quercetin in the wine.
Migraine sufferers and those prone to headaches are more likely to experience red wine headaches.
Grape varietals grown in high sun exposure have higher levels of quercetin, but fermentation and aging also play a role. [ more ]
