Nothing's iMessage app was a security catastrophe, taken down in 24 hours

Nothing Chat, a chat app from Android manufacturer 'Nothing' and Sunbird, claimed to be able to hack into Apple's iMessage protocol but faced immediate backlash for security issues.
The app was found to have unsecure practices, including storing messages in plain text and sending authentication tokens over unencrypted HTTP.
Nothing pulled the app from the Play Store after less than 24 hours and Sunbird's app has also been put 'on pause.' [ more ]

The workaround involves using Sunbird's unified messaging platform, which routes communication through a server farm of Mac Minis.
This situation is unique to the US, as most of the world uses third-party platforms like WhatsApp. [ more ]
