The Rami Library Project converts the 19th-century Rami Barracks into a contemporary public library by adaptive reuse. The design strategy prioritizes clarity, spatial continuity, and minimal intervention to accommodate new functions while preserving historic fabric. The barracks were built between 1826 and 1828 for the Asakir-i Mansure-i Muhammediye and attributed to Seyyid Abdulhalim Efendi. The large single-storey complex is organized around a monumental courtyard that provides a strong spatial and architectural foundation for library programs. The project assembled a multidisciplinary team including principle architects Han Tumertekin, Zehra Ucar, Ferhat Zeycan and consultants for structure, lighting, landscape, and electrical systems.
